QUANTIFYING PELAGE COLORATION OF SOUTHEAST ASIA SPINY RATS GENUS Maxomys (MURIDAE: RODENTIA) USING SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC MEASUREMENTS

چکیده
We documented preliminary study of coat color variations within Maxomys, one the most common rats in Southeast Asian region. sampled skin specimens that mostly deposited at Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense, Indonesia. Quantitative measurements using spectrophotometer revealed no significant difference dorsal pelage showing dark brown (L*= 25-30, a*= 5-7, b*= 10-15). The ventral colorations were variable among species. classified five different types based on measurements: whitish grey (M. baeodon, M. whiteheadi, musschenbroekii, bartelsii, and dollmani), orange hylomyoides), chestnut ochraceiventer), yellowish alticola) creamy white rajah, hellwaldii, surifer). These fur characteristics can be useful species recognition, together with craniometric features. Furthermore, molecular variation Maxomys spp. is needed to elucidate mechanisms phenotypic morphology affect patterns divergence, speciation evolutionary history Maxomys. Here, we failed obtain sequences from Mc1r (melanocortin-1 receptor) gene, probably will better use other gene such as ASIP (agouti signaling peptide) gene.

Karyotypes of four rats (Rodentia: Muridae) from Sulawesi (Celebes), Indonesia.
Karyotypes and information pertinent to genetic mapping of small mammals in remote areas of Southeast Asia are practically nonexistent. The diverse island complex of the Indo-Australian archipelago offers a unique situation to study the interrelationships of the taxonomically confused order Rodentia. Yosida (1969, 1971, 1973) reported karyotypes of two species of rodents from Makassar, located ...
متن کاملNine karyomorphs for spiny rats of the genus Proechimys (Echimyidae, Rodentia) from North and Central Brazil
Spiny rats of the genus Proechimys are morphologically diverse, widely distributed and have diploid numbers ranging from 2n = 14-16 to 2n = 62. In this paper we present cytogenetical data and brief comments on morphological and biogeographical issues related to spiny rats. In our sample of 42 spiny rats collected from 12 Brazilian Amazonian tropical rainforest and the Cerrado (Brazilian savanna...
متن کامل(Rodentia: Muridae) from Peninsular Malaysia
There are 25 species of rats and mice (familly Muridae) in peninsular Malaysia (Medway 1978). Of these the karyotypes of 19 species have been described (Yong 1968, 1969 and 1973). The chromosomes of the other 6 species found in this country have, however, not been reported. Of these 6 species, the chromosomes of Hapalomys and Pithecheir have also not been reported from other countries. The pres...

The present report describes Syphacia (Syphacia) maxomyos sp. n. (Nematoda: Oxyuridae) from two species of spiny rats, Maxomys musschenbroekii from Sulawesi and M. whiteheadi from Sumatra. It is characterized by a cephalic plate extending laterally with dorsoventral constriction and stumpy eggs with an operculum rim reaching pole. It is readily distinguishable by the former feature from all of ...
